UK Calling 2015 - New legislation On 1 July 2015. Ofcom made a number of changes to the way phone calls to UK service numbers would be charged.
|
Cost of calls made to service numbers is now split into two parts: an access charge and a service charge. Under the new legislation, which was promoted by an information campaign entitled UK Calling, call charges must be clearly stated on all materials that advertise a service number.

Freephone numbers 0800 and 0808 become free to call from both mobiles and landlines.
Meanwhile, 0500 numbers remain chargeable as previously from mobiles (free from landlines, also as previously).
Plans are afoot to migrate these to 08085 numbers in mid-2017, whereupon they will become free from mobiles.
